Blackjack Games

Blackjack is easily one of the most recognizable card games that players can expect to come across. Its history runs deep in both brick-and-mortar casinos as well as online casinos. The history of Blackjack goes back hundreds of years and the game has endured the test of time in fine fashion. These days, Blackjack is played on casinos tables all over the world and in online casinos by the thousands of people from every age and background.

Blackjack is more colloquially known as 21. By either name the game is played the same and you can get to know all the ins and outs of Blackjack with our complete Blackjack strategy guide and Blackjack game rules. A game that historically places the player versus the croupier, or the house, Blackjack made its first recorded appearance in the novel Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes under the name of veintiuna, the Spanish word for 21. An author known for his own enthusiastic gambling activities, Cervantes made gamblers and cheats focuses in many of his written works. Originally, over 400 years ago, the Spanish version of Blackjack was played on a deck of cards that lacked 8s and 9s. A lot has changed since then, but the game of Blackjack has endured and been reinvented into a modern card game that players of all ages and backgrounds still identify with and include in their cultures every day.

In an effort to drive the game’s popularity up among modern audiences, casinos began offering exponentially larger prizes for Blackjack games when compared to other card games in use at the time. Cash prizes as high as 10 to 1 in some cases brought in the crowds on the casino floor. Games are still played against the croupier in casinos, rather than players being pitted against each other. Played in rounds, the game intelligently takes advantage of building anticipation among players and the thrill of head-to-head style play is especially effective in building excitement.

Many Blackjack strategies have been developed over the years and some have been deemed more effective than others and some have earned negative attention from casinos. In the 60’s card counting became the most widely popularized Blackjack strategy that gave players a significant advantage over the house. The strategy became so popular because it took advantage of the fixed number of cards and decks used in casino Blackjack. The strategy is not in itself considered illegal because it involves mathematics and odds calculation in real-time. However, casinos are always on the lookout for card counters and do not waste any time in insinuating that they should refrain from employing such strategies at Blackjack tables or risk being asked to leave the premises.

Beyond the modern version of Blackjack, many unique variations have emerged to captivate audiences of Blackjack amateurs and professionals alike. Among these variations are Spanish 21 and Pontoon, which we offer right here at Casino Las Vegas.

Blackjack Rules

When it comes to the rules for playing Blackjack, the game requires at least two players as well as two or more decks of traditional playing cards. Players will face the deal in a heads-up match to see who holds the highest value hand that does not exceed a value of 21 points. The highest value hand is called a perfect Blackjack and emerges when a player receives a complete 21-point value hand from the beginning of the game.

On its face, Blackjack is a simple game to understand and just about anyone with little or no familiarity can begin playing after a few minutes of sitting down to a table. However, Blackjack is certainly the type of game that take a day to learn and a lifetime to master. Earlier in this article we talked about strategy, which can be essential in ensuring that a player comes out ahead over time, and we’ll go into that more in depth in a later section.

A Blackjack table will traditionally be comprised of up to 7 seats. In online scenarios, Blackjack and Live Blackjack variations can be just as accommodating and even allow players to take up all 7 seats if they choose to take advantage of playing with a multi-hand Blackjack strategy.

The game begins when a player sits down at a table. They will place their wager in the betting box according to the table limits, somewhere between the minimum and maximum bet. Keep in mind, casino Blackjack tables will offer an array of wagering options that range from casual to high-roller in size.

Cards are then dealt by the croupier from left to right for every participant. This initial hand consists fo two cards, one face-up and one face-down. When the players turn arrives, they have the option to complete a number of actions depending on the rules of the table and the cards in their hand. These actions most typically include “hit”, “stand”, “double”, “split”, “surrender”, and “stay”

  • Hit: A HITaction is when the player requests another card from the dealer. A player can hit as many times as they like until they choose to STAND or go BUST,which when players exceed the 21-point value of a hand. Some tables have a rule that if a player can be dealt X amount of cards without going They win an automatic cash payout. Traditionally, this action involves some kind of gesture from the player. This can be anything as simple as scraping cards against the table, tapping the table with fingers, or waving the hand towards the player’s body.
  • Stand: A STAND action is when the player is satisfied with the current hand they hold and want the dealer to know they do not require additional cards. Traditionally, this action involves some kind of gesture from the player, which can include placing the card under the player’s chips or waving a hand horizontally.
  • Double down: A DOUBLEDOWN action is carried out when the player believes their hand has a high-probability of winning. As its name suggests, Doubling Down will double the player’s initial wager on their hand. In this case, the player will commit to receiving a final card that contributes to their overall hand value. The player is then required to STAND. Traditionally, this action involves some kind of gesture from the player, which can include placing the additional wager to the side of the player’s betting position and pointing to it with a finger.
  • Split: A SPLIT action can only be used when they player has a hand of two cards of the same value. When utilized, a SPLIT will create two separate hands with an equivalent wager on each. Each hand will then receive an additional card. The hands will be played the same as a single hand would be, only the player has two opportunities to win. Traditionally, this action involves some kind of gesture from the player, this can include placing the second bet appropriately and signaling a V-shape with two fingers.
  • Surrender: A SURRENDER action is not available on all Blackjack Tables, but can be very useful in recovering partial wagers on hands that a player thinks will be unlikely to result in a winning outcome. This is most often used when a dealer’s hand shows a card valued at 10 points or shows an ACE. A SURRENDER prematurely ends the hand and the player receives half of their original wager back.

In short, the ideal Blackjack hand is one valued as closely to 21 as possible without going over that also beats the dealer’s. In many cases, dealers are forced to take certain actions when they hold a hand of a certain value, such as 16 or 17. Many players will incorporate these rules into their overall Blackjack Strategy.

Beyond the traditional Blackjack rules one can expect to find in any given Blackjack game at Casino Las Vegas, there are some very unique cases that emerge in games like All Bets Blackjack. The rules for this game are very fun and go beyond the standard to include:

  • Insurance: as the name suggests, insurance can be bought in the case that the dealer’s face-up card is an Ace. In this case, the player purchases insurance that the resulting hand is in fact a perfect blackjack. If it is, the player receives a 2:1 payout on their wager.

Other side bets that occur can include Top 3, Perfect Pairs, Buster Blackjack, Progressive Blackjack, Lucky Lucky, and 21+3. Blackjack Strategy

Blackjack strategies are in no short supply when it comes to the world of casino card games. Card counting certainly tops the list when it comes to Blackjack strategies, but it’s a complicated on and takes a large amount of concentration to employ effectively. When it comes to basic Blackjack strategy, we’ve got some tips that will help you on your way to playing like a pro in no time.

The first thing to consider is which Blackjack variation you’ll be playing. Different games will have different variables to consider when putting your Blackjack strategy to use. These variables can include odds, payouts, betting opportunities, and stake limits.

House advantage is perhaps the biggest contributor to your outcome on any given online Blackjack game. This is influenced directly by how many decks the game is being played with. While it is to a small degree of influence, every bit helps when playing real money Blackjack games online. This level of influence can be translated into the fact that more decks in the game means a higher house edge exists.

The next contributing factor players will want to consider resides in betting limits. If you intend to play for a long duration or want big payouts in a short amount of time, you betting habits will need to be considered. Big bets result in larger payouts. However, the elevated risk that comes with larger bets cannot be ignored.

Single-hand and multi-hand Blackjack variations offer a different criteria to consider. In single-hand varieties, players have only one opportunity each round to come out on top of the croupier. However, multi-hand variations allow players to utilize up to 7 betting positions per round, which translates into more winning opportunities per round.

The unique rule sets we spoke of earlier also come into play when it comes to employing Blackjack strategy. For instance, if you want to minimize losses while playing, a Blackjack game that offers Insurance would be an important attribute to consider including while you play.

While there are plenty of unique rules and odds to consider when deciding which casino Blackjack games to play, payouts are the biggest influence for players at Casino Las Vegas. While everyone wants to earn the biggest bankroll while playing, not everyone has the budget to play at high-roller stakes. While a player might not be able to bet €1,000 on a single hand of Blackjack, the unique payout structures many of our Blackjack variations feature can more than make up for it. Jackpots and side bets can bring payouts to near high-roller level. Keep these tips in mind when outlining your own basic Blackjack strategy.
